LAKE DELTON, WI (WTAQ) - We’re getting new and heavier rain totals from the massive storm that rumbled through southern Wisconsin, on its way to the Mid-Atlantic coast.
Stueben in Crawford County received 2.4 inches of rain – the most in the state. Two-inch rains were reported at La Farge and the Yttri Dam, both in Vernon County.
They join parts of Dodge County in getting 2 inches of rain, as a series of thunderstorms moved through southern Wisconsin late Wednesday and Wednesday night.
Authorities blamed the heavy rains for a partial roof collapse at a Walmart in Lake Delton. Police said the store’s water removal system overloaded. Two employees suffered minor injuries, but no customers were hurt.
Close to 30,000 electric customers were without power Wednesday night in southern and southeast Wisconsin. We Energies said around 1,000 customers were still in the dark Thursday morning – mostly in Milwaukee and its west-northwest suburbs.
The damage could have been worse. National Weather Service officials said the intensity of the storms did not reach the level of a derecho.
Heavy straight line wind damage and flooding were predicted earlier in the week – but the Weather Service said much of it never materialized.
Dry weather and mild temperatures are expected in Wisconsin the next two days. Our next chance of rain is late Friday night into Saturday.
