Brewers Crush the Marlins

MIAMI, FL (WHBL) - Alfredo Figaro won his first game since September of 2009, as the Milwaukee Brewers crushed the Marlins in Miami 10-1 Wednesday night. Figaro, who was brought in as a long reliever, pitched seven scoreless innings, giving up three hits and no walks.  And he struck out four, as he retired 17 straight Marlins at one point. Figaro was making his third start of the year, getting his first win since starting with Detroit four years ago. The Brewer offense scored three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Jonathan Lucroy hit a three-run triple in that frame. The Crew also rallied for four in the sixth. Carlos Gomez went 4 for 5 with a triple, three R-B-I’s, and three runs scored. Jean Segura had the game’s only homer. Figaro helped his own cause with two singles and a run scored, as Milwaukee out-hit Miami 12-5. Giancarlo Stanton drove in the lone run for Miami, which was trying to win back-to-back series for the first time in a year. Kevin Slowey took the loss, giving up six runs on nine hits over five innings.  The Milwaukee defense extended its season-high streak of games without an error to nine. The Crew has now won seven games in June – one more than its victory total for May. The Brewers took two of three in Miami, as they pushed themselves further out of last. They’re now a game ahead of the cellar-dwelling Cubs in the National League Central. Milwaukee is off today, and will open a series at Cincinnati tomorrow night.
