SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Area School District will keep food services in house for the foreseeable future. The Board of Education, as a Committee of the Whole, voted unanimously Tuesday evening to approve a plan put forward by an advisory group that studied the matter. The group determined the most economically viable option was to keep services under their control, not to outsource it as was once suggested.
Assistant Superintendent of Business and Operation Services Gretchen Thomes said with this decision, a plan has been put in place for the next school year that should allow the newly named ‘School Nutrition Program’ to be funded by itself. She figured that the budget for the program next school year will have a surplus of funds possibly around 26-thousand dollars.
The group’s plan would also have the district hire a new supervisor/director with past experience in this field, and pursue upgrading kitchen equipment in district school buildings.
