SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A search by Sheboygan Police Tuesday afternoon for several people for whom the court had issued arrest warrants forced an elementary school to stop its annual carnival.
Sergeant Brad Riddiough said around 1:30 p.m. an officer noticed a vehicle on the city’s southside containing several people police were looking for. When a traffic stop was attempted, the people in the vehicle fled.
When it became aware that one of the subjects was a known gang member and possibly armed, the department notified Longfellow Elementary School officials, which was several blocks from the incident. School officials took action by bringing all participants in an ongoing carnival inside the school for safety reasons.
Within 30 minutes, police made a number of arrests in connection to their search, and school officials ended their safety procedures.
