CHICAGO, IL (WHBL)- The Milwaukee Brewers broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the top of the ninth inning, as they blanked the Chicago Cubs 5-0 Monday night at Wrigley Field. Carlos Gomez drove home the first run with a bloop single after Jean Segura and Jonathan Lucroy singled to open the ninth. Jeff Bianchi and Rickie Weeks then added a pair of two-run doubles. Pedro Strop took the loss in relief for the Cubs. Brandon Kintzler got the win after throwing a 1-2-3 eighth inning. He’s now 3-0. Cubs’ starter Jeff Samardzija had a no-hitter going until the fifth, when Caleb Gindl hit a two-out single. Gindl also doubled, as he accounted for two of Milwaukee’s seven hits. Norichika Aoki went 0 for 5 and ended a nine-game hitting streak. David DeJesus doubled for Chicago’s only extra-base hit, as the Cubs ended a three-game winning streak. Samardzija struck out seven in seven innings, giving up just three hits. Kyle Lohse earned his team-leading 14th quality start for the Brewers, surrendering five hits in six scoreless frames. Last-place Milwaukee is now 6-3 against the next-to-last Cubs this season. The two teams will play a day-night double-header today.
