MADISON, WI (WHBL) - Area unemployment rates rose in June. According to the state Department of Workforce Development, the City of Sheboygan saw its unemployment figure rise 4-tenths to 8 percent. For Sheboygan County the rate rose 3-tenths to 6.4. It was not a good June for most areas as only 16 of the state’s 72 counties saw their rate lower or stay the same when compared to May. As for Wisconsin as a whole, the unemployment rate dropped 2-tenths to 6.8 due to the addition of around ten thousand new jobs in May and a preliminary job growth of 17,500 in June.
