MILWAUKEE, WI (WHBL) - The Brewers traded their current closer, Francisco Rodriguez, to Baltimore Tuesday night for minor league third baseman Nick Delmonico.  K-Rod was released by Milwaukee at the end of last season after his performance slipped – but no other team signed him as a free agent, so the Crew took him back in late April after Jim Henderson got hurt.  Rodriguez redeemed himself by converting all 10 of his save chances – and he picked up his 300th career save on June 22nd. He went 1-1 this season with a 1.09 E-R-A.  Rodriguez said he was grateful that the Brewers gave him a second chance, and he didn’t want to leave – even though he’ll be in a pennant race with the Orioles. The 21-year-old Delmonico was rated as Baltimore’s fourth-best minor league prospect.  He was batting .244 at Single-“A” Frederick this year with 13 homers and 30 R-B-I’s. Brewers’ general manager Doug Melvin calls Delmonico a good hitter with good baseball instincts. He’ll be assigned to Milwaukee’s top Class-“A” affiliate in Brevard County Florida.  The trade came a week before the non-waiver deadline.  Melvin says he’s not shopping anyone – but he’ll keep listening to offers as long as other teams express an interest.
