NWS confirms small tornado in far western Wisconsin

EAU CLAIRE, WI (WTAQ) - The National Weather Service confirms that a small tornado touched down late Monday afternoon in far western Wisconsin.

It damaged trees in the Trempealeau National Wildlife Refuge in far southwest Trempealeau County.

A survey team said the twister touched down around 5:15 p-m with peak winds of 70-to-75 miles an hour.

It was on the ground for just over a mile, covering a path 40 yards wide.

The tornado also went over the nearby Mississippi River for a time.

The Weather Service rated it an EF-Zero  tornado.

Funnel clouds were also spotted near Augusta in Eau Claire County and Deerbrook in Langlade County late yesterday. Forecasters say our next chance of rain is tomorrow – and the next heavy storms could roll in on Thursday.
