MU Poll: Less than half of Wisconsinites approve of Walker, Obama

MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - Less than half of Wisconsinites have given favorable job approval ratings to President Obama and Governor Scott Walker.

That’s according to a new Marquette Law School poll released Tuesday morning.

The Republican Walker’s approval rating slipped from 51 percent in May to 48 percent now – while the percentage of registered voters who disapprove of Walker rose from 45 percent in May to 46 now.

713 registered voters were polled on both landlines and cell phones in the Marquette poll between July 15th and 18th. That was more than two weeks after Walker signed the massive state budget into law which included the expansion of private school choice, as well as an income tax cut.

The Democrat Obama’s approval rating in Wisconsin slipped from 50 to 47 percent over the past two months. The percentage disapproving of the president’s job performance rose slightly from 45 percent to 46.

At election time last year, polls showed widespread support in Wisconsin for both the Republican governor and the Democratic president.

The new Marquette shows that just 11 percent now support both. There’s still a lot of polarization, with Democrats approving of Obama by a 90 to 8 percent margin, and Republicans endorsing their man Walker 81-12.
