Crave Brothers specialty cheeses recalled due to Listeria

WATERLOO, WI (WTAQ) - A Wisconsin firm has recalled three specialty cheeses, after reports of contamination that killed one person in Minnesota and made five others sick across the Midwest.

Crave Brothers Farmstead Classics of Waterloo made the cheeses involved.

They were sold at Whole Foods stores throughout the country. The grocery chain has also taken part in the recall.

An outbreak of Listeria monocytogenes was first reported just prior to the 4th of July.

All five survivors were hospitalized with their illnesses, and a pregnant woman suffered a miscarriage. The adults range in age from 31 to 67.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said all five reported eating soft cheeses just before they got sick. Lab tests by Minnesota’s agriculture department first indicated Listeria in its samples.

The three recalled cheeses are Petit Frere, Petit Frere with Truffles, and Les Freres.
