SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan Police Department is reminding people of certain ordinances and policies they will enforce down by the lakeshore this holiday.
Captain Steve Cobb says one area they will increase enforcement regards alcohol on the beach, which is prohibited expect for certain locations. Last year the department did allow some leniency with this ordinance, but Cobb said this year they will strictly enforce this, which will include plenty of signs, to hopefully limit the number of disorderly conduct incidents on the beach area.
Also a focus for the police department is bonfires, which are allowed but can not be bigger than 36 inches across and no excavation. Cobb said that when leaving the beach area, you can let the bonfire put itself out since there is no fire danger on the beach and it will help city crews cleaning up following the holiday.
Finally, when leaving the beach area following the fireworks show, Cobb said officers will be controlling traffic to limit congestion as best as possible. It will be similar to years past, all intended to push traffic away from the lakeshore towards main north-south routes on the city's west side.
Overall, the department is hoping their efforts will help make the holiday enjoyable for all who head to the beach area.
