MILWAUKEE (WSAU) Despite some rumors, a Milwaukee chicken supplier says you won’t have to do without wings for Sunday’s Super Bowl – but you will have to pay more. Greg Schmidt of Milwaukee’s Tower Chicken Farm said a pound of wings has jumped from $3.59 at the New Year’s holiday to a record-high $3.99 now. His place is providing the meat for some big Super Bowl parties – even though the Packers won’t be the featured entertainment. Schmidt received one order yesterday for 320 pounds of chicken wings – and another 600 pounds will be delivered on Friday, which is double his normal business.
The National Chicken Council ruffled some feathers when it said that farmers made one-percent fewer chickens last year due to high feed prices – and that raised fears of possible shortages. Schmidt said the reduced supply naturally led to higher prices, but there should still be plenty of wings to go around.
