SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - A 14 year old Sheboygan teen will face a murder charge in adult court. Judge Timothy Van Akkeren listened to hours of testimony over the past two days, and this morning, ruled that the case of Nathan Paape will remain in adult court. Paape is accused, along with 14 year old Antonio Barbeau, of brutally bludgeoning 78 year old Barbara Olsen to death in her Sheboygan Falls home last September. During the hearing DA Joe DeCecco stressed the seriousness of the offense calling it a “killing frenzy”. He said “This was 18 blows to the head of a defenseless woman”. Van Akkeren said he felt Paape could get the same education and treatment in the adult system that he would in the juvenile system, and he agreed that transferring the case to juvenile court would diminish the seriousness of the crime. The ruling means that Paape will face life in prison if convicted. In the juvenile system he would have been freed at age 25. He is scheduled for arraignment next Tuesday. Barbeau will also face a murder charge in adult court. He is pleading insanity.
