Lake Geneva man identified as victim in snow-related crash Tuesday

DELAVAN, WI (WTAQ) - At least one person from Wisconsin and three others in the nation’s mid-section have died as a result of the latest snowstorm.

Walworth County authorities have identified the victim of a snow-related traffic crash as 44-year-old Carlos Cantu of Lake Geneva.

Sheriff’s deputies said his pick-up truck slid on a snow-covered highway into the path of an oncoming milk truck. It happened late Tuesday morning near Delavan on Highway 11.

Cantu was wearing a seat belt – and so was the milk truck driver, a 31-year-old man. He was not hurt. The State Patrol is helping Walworth County deputies investigate.

Elsewhere in southeast Wisconsin, authorities reported hundreds of vehicles stranded. But even the state’s most populated county of Milwaukee did not have many crashes – only 26 to investigate since early Tuesday morning.

Some freeway lanes have been closed on and off due to vehicle crashes and cars getting stuck. The latest closure was late Wednesday morning on Interstate 43 at Grafton, where a tow truck was called to pull a vehicle from a ditch.
