RACINE, WI (WTAQ) - Former Racine Mayor Gary Becker has been released from prison, after serving three years for an Internet sex sting.
Corrections’ officials say the 55-year-old Becker is still under GPS monitoring. He now lives in Racine County – and his address will be posted on the state’s sex offender Internet registry when he signs up Wednesday.
Becker was convicted of arranging sex on the Internet with a 14-year-old girl who turned out to be a state justice agent when he went to meet her at a Milwaukee shopping mall in January of 2009.
After he was convicted, he was caught buying 9 junior bras and panties at a Racine store.
Circuit Judge Stephen Simanek said he was ready to give Becker probation before the lingerie purchase. But the judge said it indicated that Becker was a greater risk to the community than was expected – so that’s why he was locked up.
As part of his release, Becker cannot have contact with minors.
He was in his second term as Racine’s mayor when he was arrested. The case unraveled when Becker asked a city employee to fix his home computer – and the worker found child pornography on it.
