MADISON, WI (WSAU) - The state’s snowmobile death toll continues to climb. The number of people who have died this season is now up to 15, after 13-year-old Brett Buhrs of Brussels tried to cross a road in front of a pickup truck Friday in Door County.
The Department of Natural Resources’ Gary Eddy says they are concerned the number may continue to go up. Eddy says speed, nighttime operation, and alcohol are the usual three main factors... and this year 11 deaths have alcohol involved. Eddy cautions riders to take extra caution on ice, as spring approaches and the ice has not been very good in many areas.
