ST. CROIX COUNTY, WI (WTAQ) - A man accused of killing his three young daughters in River Falls will have two separate psychiatric exams before he’s scheduled to go on trial.
A St. Croix County judge ordered today that 35-year-old Aaron Schaffhausen undergo mental exams by two separate experts.
Schaffhausen has pleaded not guilty by insanity to homicide and attempted arson charges.
Prosecutors said he killed his daughters – ages 5, 8, and 11 – last July. He was divorced 13 months ago and moved to Minot North Dakota – and his wife allowed Schaffhausen to see the kids alone when he returned to River Falls last summer.
Another hearing on pre-trial requests is set for a week from Friday. A month-long trial is scheduled to begin April first.
