SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - An incident which occurred one year ago has prompted a Sheboygan church to put up 100 bright red signs with the simple message “Jesus Loves You." Last year James Madison student Dexter Thielhelm was allowed to hand out Valentine's candy, but only after he removed the message “Jesus Loves You” due to Sheboygan Area School District policy. Pastor Christian Gugel of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church said the incident at James Madison Elementary School, which is right across the street from the church, made a lasting impression, so this year the church is putting up its own signs to share that gospel message. Gugel said, “We knew we could share that message in the quiet way that it is by putting these signs in the neighborhood around the church and in our church’s member’s yard and the church yard." Pastor Gugel said a donation from a family in the congregation is paying for the signs.
