MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin men’s basketball team ended three straight losses to Iowa with a 74-70 victory over the Hawkeyes in double overtime Wednesday night in Madison. The Badgers came back from nine points down late in regulation – missed two late three-pointers to force a second overtime – and then went 6-for-6 in the game’s final 24 seconds to seal the victory. Wisconsin coach Bo Ryan said both teams made crucial mistakes at the wrong times, because everyone was playing so hard. The Badgers went ahead for good with 1:35 left in the second O-T, when Sam Dekker hit a three-pointer. Both Wisconsin and Iowa shot an identical 33-point-eight percent from the floor, and each committed a dozen turnovers. Wisconsin had only a slight rebounding edge at 45-44. Ben Brust scored a game-high 18 points for the Badgers, and Jared Berggren had 16 points and 14 rebounds. Mike Gesell was Iowa’s top scorer with 14. The Hawkeyes dropped to 3-and-7 in the Big Ten and 14-and-9 overall. Wisconsin improved to 7-and-3 in the conference and 16-and-7 overall. The Badgers are now tied for fourth place with Ohio State, just a game-and-a-half behind top-ranked Indiana. Wisconsin will host third-ranked Michigan on Saturday.
