CASHTON, WI (WSAU) - A 17-year-old Amish youth drowned while cutting ice blocks Saturday. Vernon County Sheriff John Spears says several boys were cutting and hauling ice. All but one delivered a load of ice blocks to the family farm, but when they got back, they couldn’t find the one who stayed behind.
Emergency crews and two dive teams were called to the springfed pond southeast of Cashton. They found the victim’s hat near a break in the ice.
The victim was pronounced dead at the scene after his body was recovered about two hours later. His name has not been released.
