Brewers' Relievers Struggle in Loss to Cubs

CHICAGO, IL (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers blew a 3-0 lead Tuesday night as the bullpen imploded, and the Crew lost to the Cubs in Chicago 6-3. The Cubs scored five times in the seventh and eighth innings, as the Milwaukee relievers ruined Wily Peralta’s chance to get his first win. Michael Gonzalez served up an R-B-I double to Anthony Rizzo which tied the game in the seventh. In the eighth, John Axford loaded the bases, and Alfredo Figaro then allowed all three runs to score. Scott Hairston drove in game-winner with a sacrifice fly. Peralta had his first quality start, giving up three runs in six-and-two-thirds innings. The Brewers scored all three of their runs in the second inning. Jean Segura, who returned from a bruised quad muscle, hit an R-B-I double and scored on a throwing error. Ryan Braun then hit a run-scoring single. Segura and Braun each went 2 for 4, but Milwaukee was only 2 for 10 with runners in scoring position. And they’re now just 8 for 54 in that department in their first eight games. David DeJesus went 3 for 5 with two R-B-I’s, as the Cubs ended a four-game losing streak. Carlos Marmol, who lost the Cubs’ closer job earlier, threw a scoreless eighth for the win. His replacement, Kyuji Fujikawa, pitched the ninth and got his second save. Axford, who lost the Milwaukee closer’s role last Sunday, took the loss. He’s 0-2. The Brewers will have a chance to win their first series of the year tonight, when they close out their set with the Cubs. Kyle Lohse goes up against Chicago’s Scott Feldman.  Pregame coverage on WHBL begins at 6:30.
