HUDSON, WI (WSAU) - As week two of Aaron Schaffhausen’s sanity trial got underway Monday, the parents of the man who admits killing his three daughters took the witness stand. Roger Schaffhausen said his son Aaron was a rebellious teen who had some “run-ins with the law.” The elder Schaffhausen testified about their son’s troubled childhood and also about his mental health issues.
He also says his son was expelled from school for stealing a gun and bringing it to high school.
Aaron’s mother Sue Schaffhausen also testified that her son was extremely depressed when he and wife Jessica broke up. She also testified that mental illness was an issue for other members of her family.
Aaron Schaffhausen has pleaded guilty to killing 11-year-old Amara, 8-year-old Sophie and 5-year-old Cecilia last July in their River Falls home.
