CINCINNATI, OH (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers could not hold a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the ninth inning, and they lost at Cincinnati Thursday afternoon, 2-1. The loss weakened Milwaukee’s already-slim playoff chances. They’re now four games behind Saint Louis for the final National League Wild Card spot with six to play. Carlos Gomez homered in the third inning today, and that was the only scoring until the ninth, when Todd Frazier tied the game with a two-out solo homer. Jay Bruce singled. And then Dioner Navarro hit a walk-off double, as the Reds won the series over the Brew Crew 2 games to 1. John Axford blew a save opportunity and took the loss. He’s 5-8. Reds’ closer Jonathan Broxton got the win.  Milwaukee would have to sweep its remaining six games - all at home – while the Saint Louis Cardinals would have to lose at least four of their final six. The Cards are off today. The L-A Dodgers would also have to lose some games for the Brew Crew to make the post-season. The Dodgers remain three and a half behind the Cards, pending their game at San Diego tonight. A more realistic goal for the Brewers might be to finish above .500. They’ll only need to win two of their final six contests to finish above the break-even point. The Crew will host Houston Friday night.
