SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Sheboygan Mayor Terry Van Akkeren made his pitch to the Finance Committee Monday night for his proposed budget without the garbage collection fee and reducing the health insurance reserve fund. But at the end of the day, the committee voted to stick with the plan proposed by the Finance Department, with the garbage collection fee. Van Akkeren said it didn't surprise him and he will continue to plead his case to aldermen and the public. He said it won't be over until the budget is approved in November. Finance Chair Don Hammond said the committee has faith in city department heads and recommended the spending proposal that they put together. Neither plan would increase property taxes in 2013.
