SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - The Sheboygan man convicted of reckless homicide in the shooting death of 21 year old Pheng Lee in the parking lot of the south-side Wal-Mart will spend the next 18 years in prison. 21 year old Kou Yang was sentenced yesterday afternoon. The courtroom on Monday was filled with Pheng Lee’s family and friends, who told the judge that Lee was headed toward a life of greatness and would have done much for others. Judge L. Edward Stengel said this is an incident that can and should have been avoided, adding it was in very poor judgment to open fire in the parking lot of an open business where other people were around. Yang was convicted following a 3 day jury trial in which he had claimed the shooting was in self defense. The jury deliberated for 4 and a half hours following 3 days of testimony last July and came back with a verdict of guilty.
