WASHINGTON, DC (WHBL) - A three-run rally in the ninth inning gave the Milwaukee Brewers a 4-2 win over the Washington Nationals. It was the Brewers' sixth straight victory, moving them within a game and a half of St. Louis for the final wild card playoff position after the Cards lost to the Cubs. Ryan Braun and Aramis Ramirez pounded consecutive RBI hits in the come-from-behind rally Friday night. Starter Edwin Jackson had held the Brewers in check, allowing just one run over the first eight innings. Norichika Aoki led off the ninth with a bunt base hit, went to second on a passed ball and took third on Rickie Weeks’ flyout. Braun tied the score at 2-2 with a single to left, then stole second and scored the go-ahead run on a double by Ramirez. Travis Ishikawa gave the Brewers an insurance run. Jose Veras picked up his fifth victory for Milwaukee, while closer John Axford slammed the door on Washington, good for his 32nd save. Game two of the four-game series takes place this afternoon.
