MILWAUKEE, Wis. (WHBL) - The Milwaukee Brewers have clawed their way back to .500 for the first time since April 24th, after shutting out the Atlanta Braves 5-to-nothing last night at Miller Park. The Brewers won their eighth straight home game. They’ve won 17-of-their-last-22 overall. And the Crew is now just four games behind Saint Louis for the second National League Wild Card spot, after the Cards lost at San Diego late last night. Marco Estrada had one of his best starts of the season, as Milwaukee pitchers recorded their seventh shutout of the year. Estrada struck out six Braves in six-and-two-thirds innings, giving up four hits and a walk. He improved to 3-and-6, as he outdueled one of the league’s best in Tim Hudson. He gave up four runs on seven hits in six-and-two-thirds innings, and the loss dropped Hudson to 14-and-6. Rickie Weeks and Aramis Ramirez hit solo homers for Milwaukee. And the Crew put together a three-run rally in the seventh. Jean Segura drove in the first run with a fielder’s choice, Taylor Green had an R-B-I single, and Norichika Aoki doubled home the final run of that frame. Milwaukee out-hit Atlanta 9-5. Andrelton Simmons singled twice for the Braves, while Weeks and Ramirez both went 2-for-4 for Milwaukee. Manager Ron Roenicke says the Brewers have had clutch hitting and outstanding pitching in getting back to even at 71-and-71. The Brewers will go for a sweep of the three-game Atlanta series tonight.
