CORVALLIS, OR (WHBL) - Smothered by an Oregon State defense for the whole game, the Wisconsin Badgers still seemingly had a chance to win when they recovered an onside kick with a minute and a half to go. An official review overturned the ruling on the field and possession was given to the Beavers, cementing a 10-7 upset win in Corvallis, Oregon, Saturday. The loss ended Wisconsin’s 33-game non-conference winning streak and evened the Badger record at 1-1. Heisman Trophy candidate Montee Ball failed to score a touchdown for the first time in 21 games and the UW offense was able to produce just 207 total yards against a team which went 3-9 last season. Beaver quarterback Sean Mannion threw for 276 yards and a touchdown. Wisconsin managed to rush for only 35 yards in the loss. Quarterback Danny O’Brien gave the Badgers a chance when he hit Jacob Pedersen with an 11-yard scoring pass with 1:31 showing on the clock. Kicker Kyle French hit the ball with his left foot on the ensuing kickoff, then recovered it on the Badger 46. A check of the video showed French had touched the ball before it went 10 yards. Mannion knelt three times to seal the victory.
