GAINESVILLE, FL (WHBL) - The Wisconsin men’s basketball team lost at Number-10 Florida Wednesday night, 74-56. A porous defense allowed the Gators to shoot a blistering 62-percent from the floor, while the 22nd-ranked Badgers struggled to shoot 36-percent. Bo Ryan’s team could not overcome Florida’s scoring runs at the start of each half. The Gators scored the first nine points of the game, while the Badgers missed their first six shots. And Florida opened the second half with a 7-nothing run which put the Gators up by 19 – and the game was essentially over at that point. Wisconsin coach Ryan said the Badgers did the opposite of what they worked on. Still, aside from the defensive lapses, the Badgers had 11 steals and a dozen offensive rebounds and they only turned the ball over 10 times against an intense Florida press. Jared Berggren and Sam Dekker were the only Badgers who scored in double figures, with 11 points each. Florida forward Erik Murphy scored a career-high 24 – and he shot 10-for-10 from the floor, making him only the 18th player in Southeastern Conference history to take at least 10 shots in a game and make them all. Florida improved to 2-0. The Badgers fell to 1-1, and will host Cornell on Sunday.
