MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin men crushed Southeastern Louisiana 87-47 in their season opener Sunday in Madison. Badgers’ forward Mike Bruesewitz – who was not expected to return until Wednesday night at Florida – had 10 points in 13 minutes after coming off surgery for a serious lower right leg cut. The senior Bruesewitz went 3 for 3 from the floor and 2 for 2 from the free-throw line. He also added three rebounds. Wisconsin scored the first 19 points of the game and cruised from there. Jared Berggren led the 23rd-ranked Badgers with 19 points, and Ben Brust added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Sheboygan's Sam Dekker played 17 minutes off the bench and scored 8 points. Southeastern Louisiana did not score for the first seven minutes and 21 seconds. Dre Evans led the Louisiana school with 13 points, and Roosevelt Johnson had nine. Before the game, the Badgers said junior forward Duje Dukan will sit out the season with a red-shirt. He missed a month of pre-season conditioning, after he came down with mononucleosis in September.
