State DPI Superintendent Evers to run again in spring

by

MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - State public school Superintendent Tony Evers will run for a second four-year term next spring.

The 60-year-old Evers told the AP about his intentions.

He was the Number-two man in the state Department of Public Instruction when he was first elected to the top post in 2009.

Evers criticized Governor Scott Walker’s move to virtually eliminate collective bargaining for teachers and other public unions – but he later worked with the Republican governor on a number of educational reforms. They included new standards aimed at making schools more accountable.

Evers is the first to publically announce his bid for the state superintendent’s election.

Candidates can start circulating nomination papers next month. They must be filed by January second in order to get on the spring ballot.
