SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (WHBL) - Former Sheboygan Mayor Bob Ryan will stand trial for allegedly grabbing a woman’s breasts during a drinking binge in Elkhart Lake last July. Ryan appeared with his wife and attorney before Judge Terrence Bourke Monday afternoon and pleaded not guilty to two 4th degree sexual assault charges. Ryan was charged last month after the results of an investigation launched by the Sheboygan City Council were turned over to District Attorney Joe DeCecco. Ryan allegedly grabbed a woman’s breasts while drinking in a bar in Elkhart Lake last July. That drinking binge ultimately led to Ryan’s recall, defeat and removal from office. Ryan is free on a $1,500 cash bond, and will be back in court in August for a two-day trial. Ryan and his attorney met with the media following the initial appearance. Ryan had no comment other than to say, "I pleaded not guilty. That means innocent." Each charge of sexual assault carries a penalty of 9 months in jail and a $10,000 fine.
