GREEN BAY, WI (WHBL) - The Green Bay Packers have found a time-tested veteran to replace former center Scott Wells. ESPN first broke the news that free-agent Jeff Saturday has agreed to a contract with the Packers. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel said the Pack gave him a much better offer than Denver, where Saturday could have continued as Peyton Manning’s center, like he’s been at Indianapolis for 11 years. The Tennessee Titans were also said to be in the running. The 36-year-old Saturday played in all 16 games for the Colts last year while Manning was out with an injured neck. The Journal Sentinel said Saturday was impressed with the way the Packers recruited him. He reportedly had dinner Monday night with coach Mike McCarthy, and he met with other team officials on Tuesday. Saturday will serve as a capable replacement for Wells, who joined the Saint Louis Rams a week ago.
