Katy Butler has spearheaded a campaign to convince censors at The Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA) to lower the R-rating of Weinstein's upcoming documentary Bully to PG-13, thereby allowing youngsters to see the film in theatres.
The 17 year old recently went to the MPAA to deliver the petition, which has been signed by more than 275,000 people, including Johnny Depp, Meryl Streep, Lady Gaga, and Justin Bieber.
Now Weinstein is to congratulate Butler for her work by handing her a Special Recognition Award at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) prizegiving on 24 March (12) in New York City.
He says, ""I am proud and honoured to present this award to Katy. Her commitment to this campaign and passion for taking action against bullying is incredibly impressive.""
Glee actors Naya Rivera and Cory Monteith will host the New York ceremony, while their co-star Dianna Agron will present the San Francisco portion of the show in California on 2 June (12).
