MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - A Madison woman is due in court Thursday, after being charged with killing a moped driver with her car last fall while intoxicated.
Prosecutors said 27-year-old Ekaterina Topolkaraeva had alcohol and morphine in her system when her car struck the moped last October.
It happened on a frontage road along Madison’s Beltline expressway – and it tossed 37-year-old Jeffrey Dorster of Madison onto the Beltline, killing him.
Topolkaraeva is charged in Dane County with homicide by intoxicated and negligent driving, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
Police said the car driver’s blood alcohol content was just below the legal limit soon after the crash. But a couple days later, a police officer said she found a kit with heroin-related supplies hidden under a shrub next to the crash scene.
Authorities quoted a car passenger as saying the driver took heroin before the crash – which broke down into morphine by the time doctors examined her body.
