FOX LAKE, WI (WTAQ) - A southern Wisconsin man has been sentenced to 40 days in jail for driving a lawn tractor on a road while drunk.
73-year-old Gordon Curtis of Fox Lake was originally charged with 5-time OWI. But he arranged a plea deal that convicted him on a lesser charge of negligent driving.
A neighbor told Dodge County sheriff’s deputies last August that Curtis’s behavior was erratic. When officers found him, they noticed a beer can that was three-fourths full in a compartment of the lawn tractor.
Prosecutors said Curtis admitted drinking 2 beers, and a preliminary breathalyzer test recorded him at 0.12 – one-and-a-half times above the legal limit for driving.
A judge put Curtis on two years probation in which he must maintain absolute sobriety. He must also undergo an alcohol assessment.
