MILWAUKEE (WSAU) The Wisconsin Air National Guard would lose 3 planes and up to 114 positions when cuts to the U.S. defense budget begin in October. That's about 5-percent of the Guard's manpower.
Major General Don Dunbar says the cuts are "sobering". He says up to 16 full-time positions would be lost. He says those cuts would be handled through attrition.
The Pentagon budget is facing deep cuts -- some were already agreed to, and others are necessary because the national debt super-committee failed to reach an agreement, causing a new round of military spending reductions.
