STEVENS POINT, WI (WTAQ) - Stevens Point Police say they’ll resume their search Monday for a UWSP student missing since early Sunday.
Eric Duffey was last seen about 1:15 a.m. Saturday leaving a downtown Stevens Point tavern. He had just turned 21 at midnight.
Authorities believe Duffey might have wandered off while walking back to his residence. Police do not suspect foul play, but they say alcohol might have been a factor.
Hundreds of friends and community members searched for Duffey Sunday, including family members who came up from his home town of Fitchburg.
Eric’s father Darren told a Madison TV station that it did not sound like his son and his friends were drinking heavily.
Police tried to track down his cell phone location – but it would only indicate he was in the Stevens Point area.
Even after the official search was suspended late Sunday, about 150 volunteers kept searching neighborhoods near the Stevens Point campus. And police kept following up last night on tips that included unusual footprints in the snow, or broken fences.
