MADISON, WI (WTAQ) - The Wisconsin Dental Association is holding its annual free clinic Friday, touting it as the largest charitable dental clinic ever in the U.S.

Past clinics took place in Sheboygan, Wausau and LaCrosse, but this year organizers decided to set up in the more-populated Madison. More hands will be on deck this year with 1,500 volunteers from 222 communities providing $1.7 million in free dental care. 

WDA's Dr. Gene Shoemaker says past clinics saw patients drive from around Wisconsin and even from other parts of the country.

Shoemaker says high demand for free services stem from people who can't afford dental care or don't make it a priority until the damage leads to pain and discomfort. 

Shoemaker says it’s first come - first served and people don't need to meet an economic status to qualify. Personal documentation such as a social security number or Photo ID will not be required.

The event will take place at Alliant Energy Center.
