KOHLER, WI (WHBL) - For the first time, the United States Golf Association is letting fans carry cell phones into one of its signature events. Mobile phones will be allowed at this week’s U-S Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run in Kohler. Joe Goode, of the U-S-G-A, says mobile devices are a part of life today, and it has to be acknowledged. But phone volumes must be silent, calls can be made only in designated areas, photos can only be taken during practice rounds and no recordings are allowed at any time. Goode says the U-S-G-A is confident that the enforcement of the policy will create a good experience for the players, who need silence just before their shots. Also, he says, it will let the U-S-G-A try out various enhancements fans can enjoy on their devices – like streaming coverage and scoring.
