SAN FRANCISCO, CA (WHBL) - The divisional playoffs get underway Saturday, beginning in the NFC when the New Orleans Saints visit Candlestick Park and the West Division Champion San Francisco 49ers. The 49ers beat out the Saints, champions of the NFC South, by one game to earn the bye and home-field advantage in this matchup. Their No. 2 scoring defense will be facing the Saints' high-octane air attack, which has helped New Orleans win nine straight, including last week's throttling of the Lions. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30pm, Central time.
The AFC's matchup Saturday night features the top-seeded New England Patriots hosting Tim Tebow's Denver Broncos. Denver advanced past the wild-card round with a thrilling 29-23 victory over the reigning conference champion Steelers last weekend when Tebow threw an 80-yard touchdown pass to Demaryius Thomas on the first play of overtime. The Patriots watched from home after earning a bye with another AFC East title, and are heavy favorites to win their first playoff game since 2008. The Broncos will be without wide receiver Eric Decker due to a sprained knee. Kickoff is set for 7pm, Central time.
