MILWAUKEE (WTAQ) - The Milwaukee firm that makes Master Locks has brought back over 100 jobs from China.
And that’s one of the things being highlighted Wednesday at a White House forum on “insourcing” American jobs.
Master Lock CEO John Heppner is attending the event. President Obama spoke at the event, and a panel discussion was planned with the CEO’s of Ford, Intel, Dupont, and the Otis Elevator Company.
It was a year ago when Milwaukee’s Master Lock said it was bringing home jobs from China.
Officials blamed rising wages in that country along with a huge increase in shipping rates at Chinese ports, and a weak dollar compared to China’s currency.
Master padlocks have been an American institution since the 1920’s. They’re still made in Milwaukee’s central city, along with factories in China and Mexico.
A few years ago, the company moved its headquarters to the Milwaukee suburb of Oak Creek.
