SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - The Sheboygan City Clerk’s phone lines were jammed Tuesday afternoon after a group called The Family Action Council made robotic phone calls to Sheboygan citizens, telling them that the casino project is set to be pushed through at Monday’s common council meeting. Mayor Bob Ryan says this couldn’t come at a worse time. Ryan says he doesn't know who this group is, but he'd like to find out who is behind it. The problem is, the city clerk's lines are being monopolized by these calls, and not allowing voters to call in and find out what new ward or district they may be in, or where their polling places are. Ryan says even if a casino were in the works, it wouldn’t just be jammed through at a council meeting. Ryan says if a casino is in the works, it would go up for a binding public referendum that would be county-wide, where everybody would have an opportunity to vote the idea up or down. Ryan says there is nothing on the council agenda regarding the casino, or the sale of four lots in the South Pier District adjacent to Blue Harbor Resort.
