A committee that’s promoting the consolidation of the cities of Saugatuck and Douglas with Saugatuck Township into a single municipality has raised more than $60,000 in contributions toward their efforts. The Consolidated Government Committee released its campaign finance report late Friday. Among the major contributors to the consolidation drive are Singapore Dunes LLC, the company backed by billionaire developer Aubrey McClendon that wants to build a $400 million resort complex in the township, and Haworth Incorporated, which has a plant in Douglas. Each contributed $10,000. Campaign spokesman Jim Storey says a majority of the funds went to pay for legal and engineering services to prepare voter petitions for the consolidation campaign to the State Boundary Commission.
