FDL authorities continue to search for identity of Jane Doe

by

FOND DU LAC, WI (WTAQ) - Authorities continue to try and identify a murder victim in Fond du Lac County who was laid to rest one year ago Friday.

Not much is known about the woman, but detectives say Jane Doe was murdered. Her body was found partially submerged in a creek bed by hunters in the Town of Ashford back in 2008.

After three years of searching for a name and her killer, she was buried at a small cemetery just outside of Waupun.

"Someone knows who she is and we'd like to bring closure to the family and bring this case to a successful resolution," Fond du Lac Sheriff's Department Lt. Cameron McGee told FOX 11.

Since she was found, detectives have accumulated thousands of pages of information. Collecting dozens of boxes full of tips that ultimately led nowhere. Leaving investigators frustrated.

"It's very frustrating anytime you get a case like this because you know somebody out there knows something," said McGee.

McGee says they don't consider this a cold case and will continue to investigate every lead that comes in.

"It's an open and active case and it will remain that way,” said McGee. “As long as it takes.”

In 2009 sketches were released to help put a face to the missing woman, believed to be between 15-21 years old.

Investigators have also turned to posting her information on missing persons websites as well as the sheriff's department page. Her case has even been profiled on America's Most Wanted.
