Badgers And Cornhuskers Battle For Big Ten Title

INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WHBL) - Big Ten Conference officials are worrying about a lot of empty seats for tonight's title game between Nebraska and Wisconsin. Thousands of tickets were still available as late as yesterday.  It hasn’t been a good football season for the Big Ten.  It only has four teams ranked in the Top-25 and the Badgers are in the championship game in Indianapolis with a mediocre 7-5 record. That obscures the fact the Badgers also have the chance to become the first team in the conference to reach the Rose Bowl three straight years since Michigan did it in the late 1970s. Nebraska’s record is 10-2.  And, both universities are known for bringing large groups of fans on the road.  It’s hoped there will be a lot of walk-up sales today because both of those universities returned some of their allotment of tickets and sales were behind last year’s levels.

Meanwhile, Redshirt sophomore Kyle French will handle the kicking duties for the Wisconsin Badgers.  French stayed with the Number-One unit this week, after he missed key field-goal attempts in Wisconsin’s losses to Ohio State and Penn State the last two weeks. French replaced freshman Jack Russell early in the conference regular season, after Russell had missed a 41-yard field goal attempt in the Badgers’ three-point loss to Nebraska in the league opener. Badgers’ assistant Charlie Partridge said French kicked very well at practice this week, and Partridge is confident that French will keep growing and getting better. He has made 10-of-15 field goal tries this season.

Pregame coverage of tonight's game on WHBL begins at 5pm with kickoff at 7:15.
