MADISON, WI (WHBL) - The Wisconsin football team now says running back Montee Ball suffered a concussion and facial injuries when he was attacked early Wednesday while walking on the Madison campus. Coach Bret Bielema tweeted that Ball walked into his office yesterday – and he’ll be with the Badgers on Sunday when they report to pre-season camp. The first practice is on Monday. Madison Police said two friends were walking ahead of Ball when five men surrounded him, pushed him to the ground, and kicked him. Police spokesman Joel DeSpain said officers have no reason to believe it was anything other than an unprovoked attack. DeSpain said investigators are trying to determine if Ball was targeted because of his status. Police have interviewed Ball twice, and he said he did not know the attackers. The incident occurred around 2:15am on a stretch of University Avenue where several incidents of violence have taken place the last few months. Police say they’re devoting more patrols to the area.
