SHEBOYGAN, WI (WHBL) - A familiar name is back on the political scene in Sheboygan County. Former Sheriff Mike Helmke has announced he will run for the 26th Assembly Seat in the November election. The seat is currently held by Republican Mike Endsley. Helmke said he’s entering the race because of an absence of professionalism and decorum shown by many elected officials in Madison. He said, “We deserve and should expect more." Helmke said the nuclear attacks by the Walker administration on labor, women, education, public safety and local government has alienated the silent majority. Helmke said he can no longer stand by and watch the state go down this regressive path, and that’s why he has come forward to offer a different vision for the future.
