RACINE, WI (WTAQ) - A Racine alderman was charged with battery and disorderly conduct on the same day he lost his bid for re-election.
Prosecutors said 57-year-old Eric Marcus woke up his wife Theresa early last Wednesday, grabbed both arms, and shook her. A sheriff’s deputy reported that she had bruises on her left arm and her right biceps.
The charges against Eric Marcus are both misdemeanors, and he’s due in court on April 17th.
The couple filed for divorce almost two months ago. Alderman Marcus told the Racine Journal Times that he never committed battery against anyone in his entire life.
He lost his Common Council seat to Krystyna Sarrazin in Tuesday’s election.
Racine County Sheriff Chris Schmaling said the timing of the charges on Election Day was unfortunate – but investigators normally don’t take things like that into consideration.
