FOND DU LAC, Wis. (WHBL-KFIZ) - It’s estimated about 100 firefighters from 14 different departments responded to a five-alarm fire in Downtown Fond du Lac this morning. Fire officials say the call came in about 2 a.m. as a couch that was on fire in an apartment above a commercial building on Main Street. One person was taken to the hospital for burns and smoke inhalation. Other fire departments were asked to provide mutual aid. Tom Wendt is the Division Chief of Fire Prevention for the Fond du Lac Fire Department. He says they were able to keep the fire from spreading to other buildings and it seems to be under control. He says there was severe damage to the building. Firefighters are still on the scene at 8 o’clock this morning.
